Abraham Lincoln High School Class of 1990

Let's try this again

1. Did you date someone from your school?
Yes.

2. What kind of car did you drive?
I was driving the Fox, ..until I backed into a telephone pole.

3. It's Friday night...where are you?
At Home, at D&D, at the movies, or at Lincoln doing the Usher job for the plays/musicals

4. Were you a party animal?
No.

5. Were you considered a flirt?
Maybe, but probably not.

6. Were you in band, orchestra, or choir?
I was in choir

7. Were you a nerd?
No.

8. Did you get suspended/expelled?
Never.

9. Can you sing the fight song?
No.

10. Who were your favorite teachers?
Mr. Hicks
Mrs. Mcdonald (the librarian)

11. Where did you sit during lunch?
We ate behind or in the drama hall

12. School mascot??
Lions

13. Homecoming court?
I’d have to look at my yearbook, but I think I remember the King and Queen.

14. If you could go back and do it again, would you?
Sure, just do to do it better.

15. What do you remember most about graduation?
People not getting their diplomas if they did something silly across the stage.

16. Where did you go senior skip day?
School, as I had chosen to do my senior skip day by myself at home earlier that week (heh)

17. Were you in any clubs?
Um, I was in honorary drama club member by being an usher for 3 years.

18. Have you gained some weight since then?
Around the same.

19. Who was your Senior prom date?
My brother actually, as Lincoln and San Jose High did theirs at the same time

20. Are you planning on going to (or did you go to) your 10 year reunion?]

Heh Yes, I was one of the planners with jeffercine. amor_ereptor was there, along with wissavix and response too :)

21. Who was your home room teacher?
No homeroom.

22. Did you play any sports?
Swimming for 3 years, JV soccer for one

23. Do you still talk to people from school?
Krista, Jefferson, Lorri

Travel question

This is not a sarcastic question, I really would like to know..because I am too much of a planner myself and don't see how I personally could afford doing trips like this, so I am envious/admiring of the people who can. As a note, I get paid once a month, so I have to allot money to certain things (for example, some of my play money is going towards any friend's birthday between april 14th and may 14th, anniversary, specific trips planned, mother's day, etc.).

How do you plan for a spontaneous vacation? Does one just spend the play money you have for that paycheck, and then scramble for plane tickets? Do you just say let's go next weekend no matter what's going on, or do you plan out farther in advance like that?

Really, I really do want to know...because I am such a planner it's hard for me to see it other ways sometimes...

Dog and Kennel stuff

-You know you are at our kennel when you not only have to go by zebras and emus to get to the place where they house the dogs, but the woman coming to take care of you had to first put down the baby baboon in the back..and who now is angry at not being taken care of and you can hear making noise in the office.

-You know you have a malamute when you ask the people to give him a bath, and you ask how the bath went, and they say this, "Fine, but he may be still a little wet, (pause) as 7 hours just still isn't enough'. Yeah, that's a malamute for you.

Southern California trip

We have a favorite hotel in Southern California that we go to...and it's right on the Ocean. It's where we went for our first ever vacation, as well as where we got engaged. We try to stay on the same side all the time, the pool side, so we get a great view of the ocean and the view of the pool at the same time. Needless to say we were looking forward to our vacation.

We left on Thursday a little later than we had thought we were going to leave..and due to Los Angeles traffic got into Southern California around 6 PM or so. We checked in, found that our 'normal' place where we get our room was being renovated, so we got upgraded complimentary to a different part of the hotel...where we were really right on the water. We got unpacked, and then ready for dinner...which was the restaurant with the hotel, and was right on the water (it's a theme-grin). We made reservations for Friday and Saturday evening after dinner, as we knew it was going to be busy. Did I mention they have a turn down elf? :) That is so awesome.

Friday, we woke up to the Ocean just crashing away ...mmmm, great sleep..I wish all my sleep was that refreshing..we were getting ready and was watching the ocean on the balcony and saw....fins in the ocean, like about 50-100 yards out. We watched for a while, and it turned out to 4 dolphins swimming around. I took some pictures, I hope they come out. Anyway, we went to breakfast, (mmmm...fresh OJ) then we went to Newport Beach and Costa Mesa for the malls and shopping...and looking at koi fish. We then went back to Laguna Beach and shopped around that area..just relaxing and enjoying the weather. We had lunch at Pasta Pomodoro's version in So Cal, and then shopped some more. We then went back to the room, relaxed for a while, then went to dinner, then came back to the turn down service, and relaxed and went to bed. Oh and I called my dad for his birthday.

Saturday, we woke up, did a little run on the beach for exercise, then took a shower, had breakfast...and realized it was getting gray and foggy. We spent the afternoon in the room listening to the waves crash on the beach, watching Gladiator on the laptop, reading a book out loud, and just enjoying the day. We went to the gift shop and did some shopping there too. We had dinner again at the hotel, again turn-down, and just went back to reading and relaxing before bed. I called my brother for his birthday and wished him good luck for the draft.

Sunday, we got up early, packed a little, had breakfast, packed some more, and then got out the door, to come back in the afternoon.

Good vacation. :)

Sports

Almost out the door, but not quite..while I'm still here, let me update on the sports thing.

-Fantasy Hockey-I'm in 4th at the moment in my league

-Fantasy March Madness-Doing okay, not great. North Carolina losing did not help me at all. Still, go Duke!

Oh and if anyone is interested, I read in the Merc yesterday that 2007 tickets for the final four at HP Pavilion go on sale tomorrow.

-Fantasy Baseball-Last year, I was in my own separate league and got help from my brother. This year, I got into the same league as my dad and brother, so no help this year from them, as it is quite competitive. The draft they set up is for Sunday..they like to sit in front of the computer for hours doing it..I just set up an auto-draft so that I don't have to be there for it, which is good, because I won't even be in town.

Have a great weekend everyone!

We had to go home early, due to the fact that we hadn't packed yet for Southern California.

Did I mention that we are going on vacation tomorrow? :)

Tonight, packing. Tomorrow, falling asleep to the sound of the Ocean right outside our hotel. Mmmmmm....

Oh, noodles-This is to anyone out there but a nudge to k_magic as we mentioned it to him, Shirataki noodles are the noodles they say are low in fat and carbs ...and thought of as very chewy.
Doctor's office

I went and saw a doctor today for a follow-up on my stomach/regurg issues. He had told me before that we had to see if the medication did its job, and before this visit, I had to stop taking it the week before to see whether the issue was still there or not. It was, and I told him that. He said that I will need to take the medication forever basically, unless there are some serious issues while I'm still taking the medication. So, I have a box full of this stuff, a prescription until next March, and then I see him then. At least no surgery. Yay for me.

High school equiv exam

I have been looking with horror and speculation at the new equivalency test they are giving seniors before they graduate. They might have the credits, but if they don't pass the test, they won't pass high school. That just gives me, personally, the chills...as I really do badly on tests in general, but specifically high school. I was lucky to graduate from high school, and I know it. I wanted to give up and just forget it, and my mom had to tell me that A-just see about getting your diploma at least, and then B-I realized a librarian needs to have a master's degree in order to be a librarian...so that idea was out. My whole graduation was based on Chemistry class, and I was lucky to get a C. I had a great lab partner, otherwise I would have been lost. I did poorly on my SATs, so I barely got into college as it was. I would have NEVER graduated from high school if the equivalency exam was in effect at the time, no matter how hard I studied. I am happy I went to high school when I did I guess.

Bleah.

Monterey

Our original plan was to go whale watching today and then to a nice restaurant down by Big Sur after that for amor_ereptor's celebratory dinner for his promotion at work. We drove down to Monterey, found the pier, and found the whale watching tour that I had made reservations with. It was a perfect sunny day, so I thought it was a great day for whale watching. I didn't take the wind into account....and no boat was going out whale watching today. So, we changed plans entirely, and had lunch at Isabella's Italian seafood restaurant with a window view. We got to watch (and take 1-2 pictures of) the seals frolicking in the water, watch all the dogs with their owners on the pier, and see seagulls all around. We had a quiet and relaxing lunch, just talking and staring out the window. We had bread, calimari, and then I had the Hawaiian oono fish for my entree. We then walked slowly back down the wharf after lunch, stopping briefly to see the organ grinder with the monkey, but stopping for a longer time to see the colorful birds that this guy had out. There were about 6-7 of them, either on perches or on people's fingers, just looking around..some squawking away, others singing very prettily. It was just a nice relaxing day to round out the weekend, and whale watching and Nepenthe for another day.

All the food and drink were green, except for the Irish Stew, which was very good. Everyone got handmade buttons, which was cool. After a while, we played poker (Texas Hold 'Em) for a while, but only half of them, so the other half were talking, laughing, generally having a good time..which was totally fine, except that I got distracted and couldn't concentrate on my cards. I obviously won't be playing in a real poker tournament or Vegas anytime soon. I lost almost all of amor_ereptor's buy in money, and we went home before I completely busted.
This week overall

It's been at home week, but there are some things of note...

My work is getting closer to changing..or so they say. The vote on that huge change will happen on the 31st, but the government (US and Euro) haven't approved it yet either, so we shall see. Then the company that was once one will become parsed out to two...and for the next year, certain floors of the building will be off-limits to certain people, as our buildings will then have two separate companies in it (2 business divisions are going one way, 2 are going the other way). It will be nice to just figure out what's going on, who I report to, etc.

Taxes. Bleah.

We went out last night and saw a movie, Ultraviolet. The review is already been done. I love World Wrapps for food.

I love planning travel of all kinds. :)

Ultraviolet

This movie is a very good popcorn film. There were good special effects with 3-D parts to it, good eye candy with the lead actress in a body suit, and good fight scenes. There wasn't anything remarkable about the writing or the acting, just fun to watch. I would recommend seeing this as a matinee but on the screen for the special effects.

March birthdays

We went up to the Bay Area to do the birthday celebration thing with my parents and my brother and his wife. On the way to and from, we were taking pictures of the snow on the hills, as there were snow even on the Salinas foothills that we can see outside our house.

Sometimes I just do not like the way my family treats me and how I then act in turn with them. We just bring out the worst in each other. It just makes the event tinged with bitterness, anger, resentment, and just questioning why I continue to put myself and amor_ereptor through this. (sigh)

At least I didn't eat too much at lunch, which I would have normally done. Then again, I still had a slight sore throat, and stuffy head. Amusingly, we went to the Fish Market...as my dad doesn't/can't eat fish. I had the coconut crusted tilapia. I love tilapia, but I should have stuck with the regular kind, it is better. Also, we had an order of smoked salmon...mmmm. After lunch, we went back to my parents' place and watched My Favorite Year on tape. I had requested silence for the movie before hand, so that the 2 out of 6 of us who hadn't seen the movie could watch it without comments from the peanut gallery on what was going to be said beforehand. They did very well. The movie was still good, if you like that kind of comedy.

Then, for presents and cake. We had cake first, 3 kinds for 3 birthdays...chocolate, homemade cheesecake, and strawberry. I did a sampling of all three. It was good. Then, on to presents..which they all liked. Then watching pictures from my brother and wife's wedding on the computer...then we went home.

Oh, and I decided to be in my brother and dad's fantasy baseball league this year. They are going to be sitting by their computer and doing the draft for 3 hours...I have already made my draft and will let it run so I don't have to be sitting at the computer doing that for 3 hours...besides they changed the date, so that the date it's being done I'm out of town.

lateness and embarrassment

For those of you who don't know me well, I HATE being late. It was bred in me from my parents (mainly my Dad) that it was somehow going to stop the universe if I arrived somewhere late. For a while, in high school and college, I would get panicky and think that something had happened to other people if they were late after 2 minutes or something for something that we planned. I am MUUUUUUUUUCH better now...really I am.

So, because of the train/shuttle/taxi this morning, I was late. Now, I am really embarrassed by this already. I would have loved to have quietly gotten to my desk without anyone saying a word. However, I walked through the cafeteria in a rush, and one of my co-workers that I eat lunch with saw me and said Out Loud so that other people around could hear, Running Late? I half-smiled, said Yes, and didn't stop to talk with him. If I weren't already late, I would have liked to have melted in a puddle. I'm sure he doesn't know how angry I was at myself already or how embarrassed I am about being late, because I'm sure he wouldn't have done it. However, maybe not say it loud enough so that all 5 tables around him could hear (and people who know me too) and turn around and look at me.

Sigh. Can I start the day over please?

Red Bull New York soccer team

I think this is the worst idea...at least before it gave the idea the sports were half advertising, half actual sports. This makes me feel like the players might have to sell Red Bull during the game when they are not on the field.

:(

http://sports.yahoo.com/mls/news?slug=redbullmetrostars&prov=st&type=lgns

cinequest

We had planned to see a Cinequest movie tonight, but again as amor_ereptor is sick, I'm not subjecting him to that right now...

Oh well, we'll see about next year's program.

taxi driver

So, this morning as I took the train to work (as amor_ereptor is still sick), I had to take a taxi from my station. The guy actually used a UPS (edit-GPS) system to take the way to my work as he didn't know the way. I could have directed him myself, but hey, if he understands a machine better than my directions and we actually get there, that's fine.
